One of the many tourist attractions of the city of Liverpool, England, is the Beatles statue, located in the Cavern Walks Designer Shopping Centre in Mathew Street
The Cavern Walks is a two tier shopping centre, and the Beatles statue is located on the bottom tier
It was created by Maldon sculptor, John Doubleday, who has also created, amongst others, HRH Prince Philip, Sherlock Holmes, Charlie Chaplin and Sir Laurence Olivier, and thousands upon thousands of fans have been photographed next to John Paul George and Ringo
The Cavern Walks was the site of the original Cavern Club
(a ‘replica’ Cavern Club has been created just across the street from here)
Prior to that it was a Victorian fruit warehouse
Since the designer shops have opened up in the centre they have tried to change the name of ‘The Cavern Walks’ – so called as it provided a short cut between streets, the shop owners now prefer to call it
‘The Cavern Designer Shopping Centre’
We think to the locals though, it will always be Cavern Walks
