Clayton Square was named after a member of an influential old Liverpool family, William Clayton, who represented the town in eight parliaments between the years 1698-1714, and who also served as Mayor in 1689
This is an impressive glass construction that houses, as well as the shops, a multitude of fancy market stalls and an open plan art gallery with some very impressive works on display
Whilst you're browsing, listen out for the pianist based up on the first floor
In front of the entrance here is a popular meeting place for people, and pigeons, and you will find this most intriguing landmark, pictured, The Great Escape
Obviously nothing to do with Steve McQueen and flying motor bikes, this creation is the work of artist Edward Cronshaw and weighs in at over three tons!
Also in the picture is St Johns Beacon
Built in 1965, St John's Beacon is actually a ventilation shaft for the St John’s shopping precinct below, Liverpool’s biggest shopping centre, and a short walk fom here
At 133 metres high, the tower was once home to a revolving restaurant, The Tower Restaurant, and above that a viewing platform
However, disaster struck in 1977 due to a fire which struck the shopping centre, and fire regulations forced the closure of the tower
Today it is the home of Merseyside’s popular radio station, Radio City, the first radio station to broadcast 24 hours a day
