Well, folks, this is the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, another one of the impressive landmarks that has made the city of Liverpool, England, so famous
The Metropolitan Cathedral, known affectionately by the locals as ‘Paddy's Wigwam’, was designed by Coventry born Sir Frederick Gibberd, chosen from over 300 entries from around the world in a competition ran in 1960
Building began in 1962 and was completed in 1967, and the magnificent structure has played host to thousands of worshippers and tourists alike from around the globe ever since
Like the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, which is a brisk five minute walk away, the Metropolitan Cathedral is well utilised with many functions and activities taking place there, so there’s nearly always something going on
Now, you must take your camera when you visit the Cathedral as there are sights within that will take your breath away. Photography inside is fine, by the way, but not during services, and if you’re not a great photographer, there is a gift and souvenir shop located here too, where you can purchase everything Cathedral related, including photographs
It is a Roman Catholic Cathedral but, as the name suggests, all faiths are welcome
Admission to the Cathedral is free, although donations are welcome to help with the upkeep, and I think about £3 per person seems to be the going rate, which, to me, seems very fair
If you’re feeling peckish, the Metropolitan Cathedral has a host of pubs, restaurants and cafes nearby, and you’re only a few minutes from the heart of the city centre anyway
