If you're arriving in to the wonderful city of Liverpool, England, by train, as you walk through the main exit of Lime Street Railway Station, this is the first of many breathtaking sights you’ll see
It’s the marvellous St George’s Hall….
Building of St George’s Hall was completed in 1854, and was designed by architect Harvey Lonsdale Elmes and, of course, this impressive structure forms one of the many major landmarks in the city of Liverpool
It is often described as one of the most impressive neo classical buildings in the world, and I’m sure you can see why
In front of the Hall is a cobbled area, and here you will see a cenotaph dedicated to those who fell in World War I, along with statues of local dignitaries
This structure is as impressive inside as it is out, and tours of the great Hall are available Monday through to Saturday, but they are subject to availability and the best idea is to check beforehand to avoid disappointment
If you fancy a bite to eat, as you can imagine, because you’re in Liverpool city centre, there are a whole host of eateries within a few minutes walk
However, one of our personal favourites is, weather permitting, to simply grab a sandwich and take a bench in St John’s garden, which is located right behind St George’s Hall
Now, before you ask, it’s called St John’s garden and not St George’s garden because St John’s was once in the grounds of St John’s church, which is no more
So now you know!
St John’s garden is an usually tranquil place, I only say that because of it’s location in a very busy part of the city, but it has some beautifully well kept lawns and flowerbeds, and statues dotted around to keep you company (say hello to Dr..Bernado while you’re there)
