During your tour of Liverpool city centre, England, you can't help but see one of
Liverpool's famous landmarks, St John's Beacon
In fact, St John's Beacon is most famous because, no matter where you are in
the city, you'll likely be able to see it!
Built in 1965, St John's Beacon is actually a ventilation shaft for the St
John's shopping precinct below, Liverpool's biggest shopping centre
At 133 metres high, the tower was once home to a revolving restaurant, The
Tower Restaurant, and above that a viewing platform
However, disaster struck in 1977 due to a fire which struck the shopping
centre, and fire regulations forced the closure of the tower
Today it is the home of Merseyside's popular radio station, Radio City, the
first radio station to broadcsat 24 hours a day
If you've a good head for heights, why not take a guided tour of the tower,
and take in some of the breathtaking views across Merseyside and beyond
Or, if you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, check out the tower at
night when there are often spectacular laser beam and light shows
If you decide to visit St John's precinct for a bit of shopping, you'll be
in for a treat
There is a whole host of shops and stores selling everything from cut price
gold and jewellery, designer clothes, discount book shops,electricals,you
name it
There's also a fabulous toy shop selling all kinds of model toys, and they
have a fantastic display of collectible model trains - a must if you're a
model railway enthusiast!
If you're feeling peckish there is a large Food Court which has a choice of
take away food including Chinese and Italian, and there's McDonalds and KFC
to name just a few
So, if you fancy a shopping spree during your visit to the city, you should
be able to find your way to the shopping precinct quite easily, just head
for St John's Beacon!
