Let us take you down ‘cause we’re going to…Strawberry Fields
This is a major tourist attraction in Liverpool, England, as it was made famous by The Beatles in a song of the same name
If, by chance, you’re not familiar with the song, it goes like this:
(Lennon/McCartney)
Let me take you down 'cause I'm going to strawberry fields
Nothing is real, and nothing to get hung about
Strawberry fields forever.
Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see
It's getting hard to be someone, but it all works out
It doesn't matter much to me.
Let me take you down 'cause I'm going to strawberry fields
Nothing is real, and nothing to get hung about
Strawberry fields forever.
No one I think is in my tree
I mean, it must be high or low
That is you can't you know, tune in
But it's all right. That is I think it's not too bad.
Let me take you down 'cause I'm going to strawberry fields
Nothing is real, and nothing to get hung about
Strawberry fields forever.
Always no, sometimes think it's me
But you know I know when it's a dream
I think er no, I mean, er yes, but it's all wrong
That is I think I disagree.
Let me take you down 'cause I'm going to strawberry fields
Nothing is real, and nothing to get hung about
Strawberry fields forever.
Strawberry fields forever.
Strawberry fields forever.
Strawberry Fields is a Salvation Army children’s home located in Beaconsfield Road, off Menlove Avenue in South Liverpool
This is a short distance from John Lennon’s childhood home
The ten foot wide wrought iron gates were first installed in 1936
In that time they have been visited, scrawled upon, stolen and recovered, held to ransom, and photographed by tens of thousands of visitors from around the world, although most of these have been since 1967, when The Beatles’ song was first released
A couple of stories about Strawberry Fields –
John’s Aunt Mimi used to tell John not to play in the fields, he would tell
her that he wouldn’t be hanged for it ....
“nothing to get hung about”
Also, it is said that amongst the graffiti are the signatures of John’s
sons, Julian and Sean
See if you can spot them!
